The Saint Barnabas Medical Center Pulmonary Lab, located at the main hospital, offers many services for respiratory diagnosis and treatment of airway disorders. We treat children and adults on both an inpatient and outpatient basis and work in conjunction with other diagnostic areas to accommodate your appointments.
The lab's staff includes a registered pulmonary function technologist and staff of licensed respiratory care practitioners which are overseen by a board certified pulmonologist.
The following services are provided:
- Pulmonary functions testing, which includes spirometry pre and post bronchodilator, MVV, lung volumes and DLCO.
- Arterial blood gases, which includes a saturation profile. An electrolyte panel is also available on request.
- Bronchoscopy, with and without biopsy, can also be scheduled with fluoroscopy.
- Thoracentesis and pleural biopsy are done for either inpatients or outpatients.
- Methacholine challenge and exercise challenge tests are done routinely.
- Pulmonary stress testing is provided under the supervision of a pulmonologist.
- Resting metabolic rate is interpreted by a board certified nutritionist.
- Pulmonary rehabilitation is available twice weekly on an outpatient basis.
- Six minute walk tests are done either with or without supplemental oxygen.
- Sputum induction and pentamidine treatments are available for either inpatient or outpatients.
- Pulse-oximetry, with or without mild exercise.
- Maximal inspiratory and expiratory pressures can also be done.
