ADULT UROLOGY

Adult Urology Robotic SurgeryRobotic surgery has allowed surgeons the ability to perform procedures for the prostate, kidneys and bladder with minimally invasive incisions. Our surgeons have found that most urologic procedures can be performed in a minimally invasive fashion without the need for the patient to donate blood. The hospital stays and recovery periods have been dramatically reduced.

Urological procedures include:

  • Prostate Cancer and Robotic (da Vinci®) Prostatectomy
  • Kidney Cancer and Robotic Nephrectomy and Partial Nephrectomy
    TCC and Nephroureterectomy
  • UPJ Obstruction and Pyeloplasty
  • Bladder Cancer and Radical Cystectomy
  • Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) and Simple Prostatectomy
  • Vesicoureteral Reflux and Ureteral Reimplant

The surgeon who performs these procedures at Saint Barnabas Medical Center is:

Domenico Savatta, M.D.

Domenico Savatta, M.D.Domenico Savatta, M.D., graduated Tau Beta Pi, and summa cum Laude from The Cooper Union for advancement of Science and Art with a B.S. in engineering. He then attended SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine and was an AOA graduate. Thereafter, he completed a six-year residency in urology at the prestigious Indiana University Medical Center, world renowned for the treatment of testicular cancer and other urologic malignancies.

Dr. Savatta's practice is devoted to adult urology. During his residency he trained under the direction of several leaders in the field of urologic oncology, endourology, reconstructive urology, and prosthetic urology. He has participated in research involving minimally invasive ways to ablate renal tissue including new laparoscopic techniques and high intensity focused ultrasound ablation of kidneys.

Dr. Savatta is a member of the American Urological Association, The Endourologic Society, and the Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons. His interests include robotic and laparoscopic urology, including da Vinci® robotic prostatectomy, robotic nephrectomy and robotic pyeloplasty, urologic oncology, including the surgical treatment of testicular cancer, and reconstructive urology, including the creation of bladder replacements and continent urinary diversions.

Dr. Savatta is a leader in robotic surgery and has performed the first da Vinci prostatectomy in the Morris/Essex/Union county area (December 2004) and the first robotic partial nephrectomy in New Jersey (May 2005) and is a pioneer in advanced robotic surgery.

PEDIATRIC UROLOGY

Pediatric Urology and Robotic SurgeryThe advent of robotic surgery has opened the door to many exciting new possibilities for minimally invasive surgery for children. With the da Vinci® System, the surgeon only needs to make small incisions, which translates into decreased blood loss, reduced postoperative pain and a quicker recovery from surgery. These benefits are so important for active children who are eager to get back to their normal daily routines. And, quicker recovery time means less time spent in the hospital following surgery, thereby reducing the stress levels for both the parent and child.

The Pediatric Urology procedures performed using Robotic Surgery include:

  • Ureteropelvic Junction Obstruction and Pyeloplasty
  • Orchiepexy
  • Nephrectomy

Surgeon Jeffrey A. Stock, M.D. performs pediatric urology procedures at Saint Barnabas Medical Center.

Jeffrey Stock, M.D.

Dr. Jeffrey StockAfter receiving his undergraduate degree at Yeshiva University, New York, N.Y., Dr. Stock received his medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, also in New York. He completed residency programs at the University of Medicine and Dentistry, New Jersey Medical School, Newark, and participated in a pediatric urology fellowship at the University of California, San Diego. A board-certified urologist, Dr. Stock is currently a Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, New Jersey Medical School. He has published more than 50 articles in peer reviewed journals. Dr Stock has been an associate editor of the journal Urology. Dr. Stock has also made numerous presentations at professional meetings and is a member of numerous medical organizations, among them, the American Urological Association, the American College of Surgeons, Society for Pediatric Urology and the American Academy of Pediatrics.

In 2003 Dr, Stock performed the first robotic surgical procedure on a pediatric patient in New Jersey. Robotic surgery has been performed on children as young as one year of age for the following medical conditions: ureteropelvic junction obstruction, ectopic ureters, intra-abdominal testes, dysplastic kidneys.

Dr. Stock has been recognized as a “Top Doc” twice in New Jersey Monthly magazine (2003 and 2005) and three times in the Castle Connelly Top Doctors New York Metro Area (7th, 8th and 9th editions).
